Look at behaviour, not personality
A customer does not need to be friendly. They need to be workable.
Warning signs
- Always changes scope
- Always pays late
- Disrespects staff
- Refuses written confirmation
Check whether your process caused the problem
Sometimes difficult customers are reacting to unclear quotations or slow service.
Review
- Scope
- Communication
- Timeline
- Payment terms
Know when to stop taking more work
You are allowed to decide that a business relationship no longer makes sense.
Exit professionally
- Finish agreed obligations
- Document everything
- Do not create unnecessary drama
My view
Not every customer is a bad customer just because they complain. Focus on repeated behaviour and whether the relationship is still healthy for both sides.
