RM1,500 vs RM5,000 vs RM10,000 Website: What Are You Actually Paying For?

A plain comparison of what usually changes as the budget goes up, using my own packages as one real example.

Three website proposals of different thickness laid out on a desk with a calculator and teh tarik

“What's the difference between a RM1,500 website and a RM10,000 one? Both also got Home page, About page, Contact page what.”

It's a fair question. From the outside, they can look similar. The difference is mostly in things you don't see at first: how much is planned, how many pages there are, how much is custom, and what the website can do.

I'll use my own packages as one real example. Other designers price differently, so treat this as a way to understand the levels, not a market price list.

Around RM1,500

1 page

One focused page with one goal. My Starter Landing Page is RM1,500.

Around RM5,000

Up to 20 pages

A full company website. My Business Website is RM2,500 to RM5,000.

Around RM10,000

Bigger and more custom

More pages, more design work, more functions. Inside my Signature range of RM5,000 to RM30,000+.

What you get around RM1,500

Think of this as one strong page, not a small version of a big website.

  • One page that explains one main offer clearly.
  • Designed for phone, with an easy WhatsApp button and a simple form.
  • Basic SEO setup and Google Analytics.
  • No fancy animation, no special functions.

Good for: new businesses, freelancers, a single service, Google Ads landing pages, simple promotions.

Not good for: businesses with many services, customers who compare you carefully before buying, or anyone who needs to rank on Google for many different searches. One page can only talk about so much.

What you get around RM5,000

This is where most established SMEs land. You have space to explain the business properly.

  • Around 6 to 20 pages: Home, About, a page for each main service, projects, contact and so on.
  • Each service page can target what people actually search for.
  • Room for proof: real projects, photos, certificates, customer feedback.
  • Some animation and interactive touches, and limited custom functions.
  • E-commerce can be added if needed.

Good for: companies with several services, B2B businesses, professional services, anyone whose customers want to “check you out” before calling.

A real example: Asia Bigwave, a corporate training company, needed around 20 pages to properly cover what people were searching for. They had delayed it because they assumed it would be expensive. It turned out more reasonable than they expected.

What you get around RM10,000

At this level, the price is less about page count and more about how much is custom.

  • More planning before design: structure, customer journey, content strategy.
  • More custom design and more advanced animation.
  • Custom functions: catalogues with filters, booking, member areas, special forms.
  • Possibly multi-language, integrations with other systems, or a bigger product range.

Good for: larger companies, premium brands, businesses with complex services, or websites that do real work for the team behind the scenes.

For example, UniCAM, an aviation university college, has more than 200 active online forms on their website for students, enquiries and workshops. A website like that is less a brochure and more a working system for the team.

What stays the same at every level

Some things should never be an “upgrade”. At any budget, you should get:

  • A design that works properly on mobile.
  • A working WhatsApp or contact button.
  • Domain and hosting under your name.
  • A basic SEO foundation.
  • Some way to edit simple content.

If a quote at any price is missing these, ask why.

What usually isn't in the price

Whatever the level, check whether these are included:

  • Domain and hosting from the second year onwards.
  • Professional photography or video.
  • Copywriting, if you don't have your content ready.
  • Paid plugins or software licences.
  • Ongoing SEO or advertising.

For the yearly side of things, read how much a website really costs in Malaysia.

Which one should you choose?

Don't choose by budget first. Choose by job:

  • If the website must explain one thing and get WhatsApp messages, start around RM1,500.
  • If it must explain your whole business and build trust, plan around RM5,000.
  • If it must do work for your team or customers, or carry a premium brand, expect RM10,000 and above.

And please don't pay for the bigger one just because it sounds better. If the smaller package is enough for what your business needs today, that's the right one. You can grow the website later.

If you're comparing freelancers, this goes deeper into each part of the price: how much to pay a freelance web designer. And you can see every feature side by side in my website design packages.

Not sure which budget fits?

Tell me what your business does and what the website must achieve. If the smaller one is enough, I'll say so.
