Need a Specialist? Here’s the Best Way to Hire One in Malaysia
Hiring a specialist is different from hiring general staff. The better the skill, the smaller the pool, and many strong candidates are not actively applying.

Define the skill properly
Do not advertise for a specialist when you actually need three different jobs in one person.
Be specific
- What must they already know
- What can be learned after joining
- Years of experience if it truly matters
- Tools or certifications that are essential
Use a targeted channel
For professional roles, broad social media hiring can create a lot of noise. LinkedIn, specialised job portals, industry contacts and recruiters usually make more sense.
Go where the talent is
- Professional networks
- Industry groups
- Recruitment agencies
- Direct referrals
Be realistic about salary
If the market pays more than your budget, changing the job title will not solve the problem.
Adjust one of three things
- Budget
- Experience requirement
- Scope of work
My view
Specialist hiring usually costs more because finding the right person is harder. The goal is not the cheapest hire. The goal is someone who can actually solve the problem you hired them for.
